Trivial Matter

By Jim De Block, Arika Yamada and Oleg Stepanov

Premiered at the AHA Festival in Göteborg, Sweden in 2016

In 2016 we were asked to make a site specific work in the Volvo Hall for the AHA Festival in Gothenburg. The theme of that years’ festival was Uni-Verse. We set out to make a full length piece and invited Karl Bergström to work with us to make a giant inflatable device that we could also enter. The idea was that this black mass would slowly inflate during the performance. This was a very ambitious project.

The AHA! festival explores encounters between investigates the meeting between art and science during in a three-day event at the Chalmers University of Technology hosted by the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Department of Physics. It is an international festival intending intended to provide a stage for enlightening and surprising experiences, staging surprises,

new thoughts and displaced perspectives that lead to alternative modes of thinking about exploring the world through art and science. We invite scientists (physicists, historians, astronomers, engineers), artists (dancers, musicians, painters, poets, acrobats) who reside in these borderlands and wish to share their vision and work.
